Lahore: Mohammad Hasnain will replace injured Shaheen Shah Afridi in the ACC Asia Cup squad, Pakistan Cricket Board said on Monday.

The continental tournament will be played in the United Arab Emirates from August 27 to 11 September.

Hasnain is called next Shoaib Akhtar for his ability to bowl 150 kph but he has also been accused of chucking. Recently, during a clash between Southern Brave and Oval Invincibles at The Hundred, Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis after getting out to the Pakistan pacer, suggested Hasnain bent his arm. Viral video showed Stonic mimicking a ‘throw’ on his way to the pavilion.

Earlier, Moises Henriques had accused Hasnain of doing the same in the previous edition of the Big Bash League. An umpire also reported it and he was found guilty of having an illegal action. The Pakistani quick has, however, been cleared to bowl again after action correction work.

The 22-year-old Hasnain has represented Pakistan in 18 T20Is in which he has taken 17 wickets.

Hasnain will join the side from the United Kingdom, where he is representing Oval Invincibles in The Hundred competition.

Pakistan will take on India in their tournament opener in Dubai on Sunday, while their second Group A fixture will be against a qualifier (UAE, Kuwait, Singapore or Hong Kong) in Sharjah on September 2.

The Super Four matches will be played from 3-9 September.

Pakistan squad: Babar Azam (captain), Shadab Khan (vice-captain), Asif Ali , Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Shahnawaz Dahani and Usman Qadir. (Inputs from UNI)
