The Asia Cup Trophy, which has been locked inside the ACC headquarters since September 29, has now again become the center of controversy after a photo showing it secured with a cycle lock went viral on social media. The image reveals the trophy placed in a closed room, its door fastened with a simple bicycle lock — a sight that has left many cricket fans amused and baffled.
Indian fans are ridiculing ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi, joking that he couldn’t even afford a proper lock for such a prestigious trophy.
According to reports, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi has instructed that the trophy should not be moved or handed over to India without his approval. The situation stems from an incident during the Asia Cup 2025 final, when Team India refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi’s hands after defeating Pakistan in Dubai on September 28. Following the snub, Naqvi reportedly took the trophy with him, and it has remained at the ACC office ever since.
Naqvi, who also serves as the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistan’s Interior Minister, has been at the center of multiple controversies. The Asia Cup tournament itself took place amid ongoing political tension between India and Pakistan, with Indian players refraining from shaking hands with their Pakistani counterparts. Naqvi further fueled the situation by posting politically charged statements on social media.
The BCCI has expressed strong objection to Naqvi’s actions and is reportedly planning to raise the issue at the upcoming ICC meeting. Sources suggest that a formal motion of censure could be proposed against Naqvi, possibly leading to his removal from the ICC Board of Directors.
