Asia Cup Trophy Row: Mohsin Naqvi Says He Was 'Made to Look Like a Cartoon', Demands Suryakumar Yadav Collect Trophy From ACC Office

A fresh controversy has erupted over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy handover after India's victory against Pakistan in the final. Tensions escalated on Tuesday during a heated exchange between BCCI representatives and ACC chairman and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi.

Trophy Dispute Between BCCI and ACC

The dispute began when Naqvi reportedly refused to hand over the Asia Cup trophy and medals to the Indian team despite their win. According to sources, BCCI officials argued that the trophy belonged to the tournament winners and not any individual.

Senior BCCI members Rajiv Shukla and Ashish Shelar, who joined the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting, demanded that the trophy be kept at the ACC office in Dubai, from where it could be forwarded to Team India.

"They told Naqvi, 'We want the trophy as legitimate winners. It is the property of the ACC, no individual has the right to keep it," said a BCCI source.

Naqvi Felt Embarrassed

During the meeting, Naqvi reportedly expressed his frustration over not being informed that the Indian players would not accept the trophy from him during the post-match ceremony. He claimed he was left waiting awkwardly on stage to present the medals to captain Suryakumar Yadav and his team, saying he was made to look "like a cartoon."

According to reports in Pakistani media, Naqvi has rejected Rajiv Shukla's appeal regarding the trophy. He insisted that Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav will have to personally visit the ACC office in Dubai to collect it.

Sources said the BCCI even warned of escalating the matter to the ICC if the trophy was not handed over promptly.

Trophy Walk-Off Sparks Outrage

The issue stems from the unprecedented scenes on September 28, when Naqvi, also the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), appeared to walk away from the stadium with the Asia Cup trophy after the Indian team refused to accept it from his hands.
