Australian women's cricket captain Alyssa Healy has been ruled out of the remainder of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) due to a left knee injury. The Sydney Sixers confirmed the news, dealing a significant blow to their campaign, according to Cricket Australia.

Healy's injury raises concerns about her availability for Australia’s upcoming home ODI series against India, set to begin on 5 December. This is the second major injury setback for Healy this year; earlier, a ruptured plantar fascia sidelined her during the Women’s T20 World Cup semi-final against South Africa, where Tahlia McGrath captained the side in her absence.

In November, Healy expressed reservations about her full availability for the ongoing cricket season, citing her dual roles as captain and player. "Being skipper as well is a fairly big role for me. I want to be available for as much of the summer as I can," she stated.

The upcoming India series is followed by a busy calendar, including an away ODI tour of New Zealand and a home multi-format Ashes against England, adding urgency to Healy's recovery.

Despite her commitment, Healy acknowledged earlier that she might miss parts of the WBBL. "I want to be available for every game I possibly can, but the reality is that might not be the case," she admitted, reflecting on limited appearances for the Sixers in recent seasons.

If Healy doesn't recover quickly, Tahlia McGrath is expected to reprise her leadership role during the India series. This development leaves Australian fans anxiously awaiting updates on their skipper’s fitness ahead of a packed international schedule.(UNI)
