New Delhi: P V Sindhu, the most decorated Indian shuttler, is celebrating her 27th birthday on Tuesday. From winning World Championships to competing and winning back-to-back medals at the Olympics, she has become a badminton sensation in the country.

Sindhu is the second Indian shuttler after Saina Nehwal to win an Olympic medal and the second Indian after wrestler Sushil Kumar to win two individual medals at the Olympics.

She scripted history in 2016 by reaching the finals of the Rio Olympics and became the first Indian shuttler to clinch a silver at the mega event.

The Hyderabad-born has five world championships medals including a gold which she bagged in 2019. She won the bronze in 2013 and 2014 and silver in 2017 and 2018.

Greetings poured in for Sindhu.

Badminton Federation of India (BAI) President and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: "Warm greetings Sindhu. Your accomplishments on the badminton court have been stupendous."

Athens Olympics bronze medallist shooter and BJP MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said: Greetings ... on her birthday. Keep shining and inspiring!"

Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju wished her "good health, long life and happiness forever".

Indian hockey player Yuvraj Walmiki added: "The power of women is unstoppable. And our P V Sindhu is one of the classic examples of what women can do!"

She was bestowed the Arjuna Award in 2013. In 2015, she became the youngest Indian to receive Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award.

In 2016, Sindhu was conferred with Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, the highest sporting honour of India for her outstanding contribution to the field of sports. She also bagged Padma Bhushan. (UNI)
