BCCI to impose 2-year ban on Boria Majumdar in Wriddhiman Saha case. Here's what happened between cricketer and journalist

Mumbai: BCCI is likely to clamp a two-year ban on Boria Majumdar and appeal to ICC to blacklist him after a three-member BCCI committee found him guilty of intimidating India wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha over an interview request.

The premier Indian cricket body is likely to inform all state cricket associations to disallow Majumdar inside stadiums, according to BCCI sources. He will also, in all likelihood, not be given media accreditation for home matches and players asked not to engage with Boria, they said.

Soon after the controversy hit national headlines, the BCCI set up a committee comprising vice-president Rajeev Shukla, treasurer Arun Dhumal and apex council member Prabhtej Bhatia to probe Saha's allegation.

While deposing before the committee, the Bengal wicketkeeper-batsman identified Majumdar and alleged that he was bullied for an interview. In retaliation, Majumdar accused Saha of "doctoring" the screenshots of the WhatsApp messages he had posted on Twitter and later shared with the committee.

The controversy came to light after Saha on February 19 posted a tweet, stating, "After all of my contributions to Indian cricket… this is what I face from a so-called 'Respected' journalist! This is where journalism has gone."

Saha also shared screenshots of purported messages that he had received. One of them said: “You did not call. Never again will I interview you. I don't take insults kindly. And I will remember this.”

Following his revelation, the cricketing fraternity rallied behind Saha in his support. Ex-India coach Ravi Shastri appealed to BCCI President Sourav Ganguly to look into the matter. (UNI)
