Indian women hockey team pulled off an upset after defeating 3-time world champ Australia by a thin scoreline of 1-0. Women in blue opted to attack from the first half but tasted success in the second half and maintained the lead till the end. Rani Rampal led team India erupted in joy after this historic victory.
The only goal scored by the Indian team came in the second half when the Australian team conceded a penalty corner. Dragflicker Gurjit Kaur made the most of it by hitting the ball straight into the goalpost. Later Australian players resorted to attacking and made into the D of the Indian contingent regularly. Despite getting 7 penalty corners Aussies failed to convert even 1 chance into the goal. In the last leg, they got 2 oppurtunity but the Indian goalkeeper ensured no casualty is done.
