Calf injury rules out Anderson for Ireland Test

London:Jimmy Anderson will play no part in the Lord's Test against Ireland on Wednesday, after failing to recover from a calf injury sustained earlier this month.

Anderson suffered the injury while on county duty for Lancashire against Durham on July 2 ? an MRI scan confirmed he had torn his calf.Despite that, he was included in the squad for the four-day Test, in anticipation of a speedy recovery. However, that didn't go as planned, and he'll continue to be assessed by the England and Wales Cricket Board, with an eye on the Ashes
opener in Edgbaston on August 1, an ICC report on Tuesday said.

With both Jofra Archer and Mark Wood nursing injuries and unavailable for the first Ashes Test, the absence of Anderson in Edgbaston, should it come to that, will be a major blow for England.

Somerset's Lewis Gregory and Warwickshire's Olly Stone are the two players likely to benefit from Anderson's absence for a Lord's Test debut against Ireland.(UNI)
