Dubai: Virat Kohli has equalled former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin’s long-standing record for the most catches as a fielder for India in One-Day Internationals (ODIs).
Kohli equalled Azhar's record in the Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh in Dubai on Thursday.
Kohli and Azharuddin now share the top spot with 156 catches each, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who held 140 catches in his ODI career.
Rahul Dravid occupies the fourth position with 124 catches, while Suresh Raina, known for his agility in the field, completes the top five with 102 catches.
Meanwhile, India’s pace spearhead Mohammed Shami has etched his name in history by becoming the joint-second fastest bowler to take 200 ODI wickets. He achieved the feat in just 104 matches, matching Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq. Australia’s Mitchell Starc holds the record, having reached the milestone in 102 ODIs.
In terms of the fewest balls bowled to claim 200 wickets, Shami leads the charts, having accomplished the feat in just 5,126 deliveries. Starc follows closely with 5,240 balls, while Saqlain Mushtaq (5,451), Brett Lee (5,640), and Trent Boult (5,783) complete the top five.
Shami’s achievement underscores his efficiency as a strike bowler, reaffirming his status as one of the most lethal pacers in modern-day cricket. His exploits will be crucial for India as they gear up for upcoming international assignments.
