COVID-19: Punjab Kings batsman Nicholas Pooran to donate portion of IPL his salary to help India in COVID battle

New Delhi: In a touching gesture, Punjab Kings’ West Indian batsman Nicholas Pooran on Friday decided to donate a part of his IPL salary to help India fight the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

India is witnessing an unprecedented surge in Covid-19 infections and registered 3,86,452 fresh cases on Friday. The health-care system is being overburdened with the acute shortage of oxygen and lifesaving drugs.

The 25-year-old cricketer from Trinidad is aware of the toll the unprecedented health crisis is taking on India’s overburdened medical infrastructure and expressed his desire to play his part in fight against pandemic.

“Although many other countries are still being affected by the pandemic, the situation in India right now is particularly severe. I will do my part to bring awareness and financial assistance to this dire situation,” Pooran tweeted.

Pooran also urged Indians to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest.

“If you can get vaccinated, please do, I will also do my part which is continue to pray for India but not only that, I would also like to donate a portion of my IPL salary towards this crisis,” he said in the video posted on Twitter.

His franchise Punjab Kings also pledged support by providing oxygen concentrators cross the country.

“To help the fight against #COVID19 in India, #PBKS has pledged to provide oxygen concentrators with the help of @roundtableindia! We also request everyone to join in and help in whatever way possible because together, we can! #SaddaPunjab #Unite2FightCorona”, Punjab Kings wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals on Thursday announced a contribution of INR 7.5 crores towards Covid Relief to support people in India impacted by the surge of Covid-19 virus.

Delhi Capitals, along with its co-owners JSW and the GMR Group, also stepped in to support the city’s fight against the Covid-19. (UNI)
