New Delhi: The greatest of cricket stars are set to soar the adrenaline levels again, as they return to the field, to do what they are best at - play the Gentleman’s game, albeit for a greater cause!

The who’s who in the world of cricket, with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Brian Lara, Brett Lee, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Jonty Rhodes, will reignite old rivalries and join forces, as they participate in the Unacademy Road Safety World Series, scheduled to begin on March 7, promote road safety.

The trophy of the tournament, which will be played between March 7 to 22 at three places, including Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune, was launched here on Thursday in a glittering ceremony, graced by Virender Sehwag.

Speaking on the occasion, the Multan Ka Sultan said “I feel blessed to be a part of such a noble cause. We will try to make people aware about road safety through this tournament.”

Cricket is a fun game and there is huge involvement of crowd, so there can’t be a better way to deliver an important message through this tournament.

“We need to wear protective gears in cricket to save ourselves from injury, likewise we need to do certain things like wearing seat belt and following traffic rules, including the ‘no drink and drive’ on road,” he added.

Meanwhile, comedian and actor Suresh Menon had a candid interaction with Viru, with the versatile cricketer opening up his heart on a variety of topics, including road safety and the current sportspersons.

The former talismanic opener also reminisced about some notable moments he had experienced, both on and off the field and went to share some locker room secrets!

The Road Safety World Series is an initiative by Road Safety Cell of Maharashtra in association with Professional Management Group (PMG).

The matches will be played in T20 format between India, Australia, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and South Africa and will stream live on COLORS Cineplex, VOOT and Jio at 1900 hrs.

This will be also a golden opportunity for new-generation cricket fans to watch the legendary cricket players grace the field. A total of 110 retired cricketers will be seen entertaining the cricket lovers.

While there will be lots of action on the field, the shows will also keep the entertainment quotient high. The likes of Cyrus Broacha, Karishma Kotak and Suresh Menonwill bring the fun element to the tournament.

Presenting a perfect blend of nostalgia and unlimited entertainment, the series will host both, a pre and post-match show? Super Over that will keep the fans abreast of the behind-the-scenes updates, match analysis, in-depth players’ performances and more.

Veteran cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar, who will donning the hat of the league’s Commissioner, is also set to share his expertise and insights. (UNI)
