Cristiano Ronaldo reveals engagement to long-term girlfriend Georgina

New Delhi: Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo is now engaged to his long-time girlfriend, Georgina Rodríguez, in a move that embarks on a new journey in their close to eight years together.

The news was announced by the couple, who unveiled the joyful tidings of their engagement on their social media accounts with posts showing off Georgina's engagement ring.

Ronaldo and Rodríguez also met in 2016 in Madrid, when she worked at at a Gucci store in Madrid. Since then, the couple have created a life for themselves, raising their children and accompanying each other throughout the Portuguese striker's highly decorated career through clubs such as Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United, and now Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

The proposal follows years of speculation surrounding when the two would get married.

Rodríguez, who is a model and influencer, has frequently talked about her close relationship with Ronaldo during interviews and through her Netflix reality show I Am Georgina.

Fans worldwide have showered the couple's social media with congratulatory posts, with information about the wedding kept secret. The news has generated buzz among fans who want to see one of football's most iconic figures do this next thing in his life.

Famous faces including Kim Kardashian have liked the engagement announcement on social media. Piers Morgan, who interviewed Ronaldo few years back also wished them "as much success in their marriage as he's had on the football pitch!"
