Chennai: Four time champs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) eked out a tense and tricky seven wicket win over Sun Risers Hyderabad, thanks to a solid start and Devon Conway's unbeaten half century in the IPL match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here tonight after all rounder Ravindra Jadeja's three wicket haul.
This was CSK's fourth win in six matches after the home team restricted the visitors to 134 for seven, thanks to Jadeja's mid innings show claiming three wickets, mainly due to iconic skipper MS Dhoni marshalling his resources well.
CSK got off to a brisk start with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Conway scoring freely, before the introduction of spinners, created some tense moments, as the home team lost three wickets, before Conway's two successive boundaries and Moeen Ali's final shot clinched the issue in favour of CSK in th 18th over.
The openers added 87 runs in 11 overs with Ruturaj scoring 30 in 35 balls with a mere two fours in the opening stand dominated by Conway, before two quick wickets sent some ripples in the CSK camp.
However, Conway, 77 not out, 57 balls, 12 fours and a six, ensured that the CSK emerged victorious.
In fact it was a tense finish after CSK added 87 for the opening wicket to put the team in a strong position, before they lost two wickets of Ajinkya Rahane and Impact player Ambati Raqyudu in a space of eight balls as the home team slipped from 87 for no loss in 10.5 overs to 122 for three in 17 overs.
However, Conway and Moeen Ali ensured that the team crossed the hurdle and propel the team to the second place in the points table with 8 points. (UNI)
