Nanjing: Former runner up and the 10th seeded Saina Nehwal on Friday lost to Carolina Marin at the BWF Badminton World Championships 2018 in the quarter-finals.
With this defeat Saina is out of the championship as Marin thrashed Saina 21-6, 21-11 in just 31 minutes to enter the semi-finals.
Commonwealth Games gold medalist Saina was disappointed and failed to make a comeback in the match, after losing the first game 6-21.
Before playing with Marin, Saina said that she was ready for Marin’s challenge and will be give her best. But in the eighth quarter-finals of the world championship Saina was not at her best against Marin.
After this defeat, Saina’s career record against Marin is 5-5. The last encounter between the two was held in the Denmark Open in October last year, where Saina had won. But the Indian player bowed down before Carolina here in the world championship.
Marin had won gold by defeating Saina in the 2015 World Championship final and now she has reached the semi-finals. (UNI)
