London: India opener Mayank Agarwal has been called up for the rescheduled Test against England in Edgasbaton, scheduled to start on July 1.
He will join rest of the Indian squad on Monday.
"As per the latest travel advisory, Agarwal will not be required to quarantine upon arrival, which will make him available to play immediately as required," ESPNcricinfo reported.
The 31-year-old is reportedly been called as a back-up for captain Rohit Sharma, who has tested positive for Covid-19 in a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on Saturday.
The India opener missed the cut for 15-member squad for England but an injury bow to KL Rahul and doubts over Rohit's availability due to Covid-19 has opened the doors for him.
India are still waiting on the status of Rohit, who is currently in isolation at the team hotel and is under the care of the medical team.
The Test in Birmingham is the conclusion of the series from last year which was suspended after a Covid-19 outbreak in the Indian camp. (UNI)
