Visakhapatnam:Brilliant centuries by Dean Elgar 160 and Quinton de Kock 111 helped South Africa reach 385/8 in 118 overs against India at stumps on day three of the first Test of the three-match series here at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium on Friday, while it was experienced off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin 5/128 who put brakes on Proteas batting line-up
South Africa still trail by 117 runs with 2 wickets remaining in the innings. When stumps was called off Keshav Maharaj 3 off 14 and Senuran Muthusamy 12 off 60 were at the crease.
Earlier India declared their first innings at 502/7. Ashwin took two wickets on Thursday and on Friday grabbed three wickets.
South Africa resumed their innings from earlier score of 39/3. Elgar 160 off 287 (18 fours and 4 sixes) kept Indian bowlers under check. De Kock also played a good innings 111 off 163 (16 fours and 2 sixes). Skipper F du Plessis also contributed scoring half century 55 off 103 (8 fours and a six). (UNI)
