Embarrassment in Australia! Pakistan Hockey Captain Says Players Had NO Hotel, Cooked & Washed Dishes

The Pakistan men’s hockey team has reportedly faced serious mismanagement during its tour of Australia, triggering controversy back home. Team captain Shakeel Imad Butt alleged that due to the absence of confirmed hotel bookings, players were left stranded and even had to cook their own meals and wash dishes.

However, team management has denied the allegations. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered a formal inquiry into the matter.

Captain’s Allegations

Speaking to the media at Lahore airport after returning from Australia, Imad Butt levelled serious accusations against the Pakistan Hockey Federation. He claimed that the team had to wander on the streets because hotel accommodations were not properly arranged.

He further stated that players were forced to cook their own food and wash utensils before heading to matches. “Under the current team management, I cannot continue,” he reportedly said, expressing frustration over the situation.

Funding Dispute: Sports Board vs Federation

Butt said that when he approached the Pakistan Sports Board, officials informed him that full financial support had been released to the hockey federation before the team departed for Australia.

However, when he raised the issue with team management, he was allegedly told that the funds provided by the sports board were insufficient.

The conflicting claims have raised questions about where the lapse occurred.

Captain Raises Concerns Ahead of Qualifiers

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Butt noted that the World Cup qualifying round is scheduled to begin in just five days — a crucial event for both the national team and the federation.

“With so little time left, we cannot move forward under the present management,” he said.

In recent days, photos and videos circulating on social media showed Pakistani players cooking food, cleaning utensils, and sitting by the roadside with their luggage during the Australia tour. The visuals intensified criticism and sparked widespread debate over the treatment of national athletes.
