England name Livingstone new captain as Buttler ruled out of West Indies ODIs

London: England will be without the services of Jos Buttler for the One Day International leg of the upcoming tour of West Indies, as the captain continues to recover from a calf injury.

Buttler missed England’s ODI and T20 series against Australia in September and did not feature in The Hundred due to a calf injury he sustained earlier in the English summer.

Harry Brook deputised for Buttler against Australia, but with Brook on tour with the Test team in Pakistan, Liam Livingstone has been named as the captain for England’s three-match ODI series in the Caribbean, starting on October 31.

Buttler will return for the T20 leg of the tour, which follows the ODIs, but his absence means that the ODI squad is down to 13 members, with two players due to be added from the Test squad following selection for the third Test in Rawalpindi.

A media release from the ECB said that, “a decision on whether to add a replacement player to the squad is still to be decided,” an ICC report said.

This will be the first time that Livingstone has captained England across formats. The 31-year-old has captaincy experience with Lancashire and, with 81 international caps, is the third most experienced member of the travelling squad, behind spinner Adil Rashid and all-rounder Sam Curran.
