Ahmedabad: England were knocked out of the race for a place in the final of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship after losing the day-night third Test against India by 10 wickets, here on Thursday.
England, who are now 2-1 down in the four-match series, needed to win the four-match series 3-1 to play the June 18-22 final against New Zealand.
The Black Caps have already qualified and are placed second in the latest list. They are assured of a place in the final with 70 percentage points.
England have dropped to 64.1 percentage points on the points table, which is now led by India with 71 percentage points.
India need to either win or draw the last Test starting March 4 at the same venue in Ahmedabad to ensure they progress to the WTC final.
Australia, who are in third place with 69.2 percentage points, will hope England can still get something out of the series and win the final Test, which would result in a Trans-Tasman event in the inaugural WTC final. (UNI)
