Dubai:International cricket will take place after a long gap of 117 days when England play West Indies for a three-match series beginning at Southampton with empty stands.Sporting activities were halted in March due to corona pandemic across the globe. 

Stokes eager for a win against quality Windies team at Southampton

Ben Stokes, who will step up as England captain in the absence of Joe Root for the first Test against West Indies here on Wednesday, has said his focus is "on the job, not on the bells and whistles" of captaincy.

Stokes, Root's vice-captain, will be leading the team for the first time while the regular Test skipper is away for the birth of his child. The all-rounder said the title was a matter of pride for him, but he didn't see it changing how he approaches the game.

Legendary batsman Brian Lara feels adaptability is the key for Windies to English conditions in the upcoming three-match Test series against hosts and tourists must try and win in four days because they cannot last five days.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic across the globe international cricket has finally resumed after a long gap of 117 days as the three-Test series starts on Wednesday here  in a bio-secure environment.The tourists have a strong fast bowling line-up but their batsmen average only 23.59 in 19 Tests since their most recent tour of England in 2017 said former captain.

Lara, who scored a record 11,953 runs for West Indies in 131 Tests, said the series would depend on how quickly they can adapt to English conditions.(UNI)
