London
: England were given an injury scare in their first warm-up ahead
of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019, as right-arm pacer Mark Wood was taken for
a scan on his left foot.
The pacer, who has been troubled by ankle injuries throughout his career, aborted
his run-up twice before jogging off the field after a single delivery of his fourth over
at Southampton on Saturday.
While Wood had taken the first wicket to fall in his previous set of six ? Australia's
captain Aaron Finch chipping one to Moeen Ali at mid-on ? he did not return for the
remainder of the innings.
"Mark Wood is to have a precautionary scan. England's medical team want to ensure
there is nothing serious in the build-up to the start of the World Cup," said an ECB
statement.England kick off their World Cup campaign against South Africa at The Oval on
May 30.
