Ex-India captain and BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly turns 50

New Delhi: Former India captain and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief Sourav Ganguly is celebrating his 50th birthday on Friday.

In an international career that lasted for 17 years, Ganguly represented India in 113 Tests and 311 ODIs. The 'Prince of Calcutta' scored 18,575 runs across all formats and plundered 38 tons as well.

Apart from his batting prowess, Ganguly is also hailed as one of the greatest captains that the Indian side has ever had.

He marked his international debut in 1992 against the West Indies at the Gabba. On his Test debut in June 1996, he has scored a fantastic 131 and etched his name in the Lord’s Honour’s Board.

After his memorable at Lord's, he was appointed India skipper in 2000. As a captain, he led India in 195 matches across all formats and registered win in 97 games.

Wishes poured in on social media for 'Dada".

Taking to Twitter former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh said: "Happy Birthday Dada! You’ve been a great friend, an impactful captain and a senior any youngster would want to learn from."

Tripura Chief Minister Manika Saha also extended greeting to Ganguly. "Heartiest birthday greetings to Cricket legend. Your dedication towards cricket and contribution to Indian cricket is exemplary for all cricketers. May you be blessed with good health and long life..." he tweeted.

In October 2019, Ganguly officially took charge as the BCCI president. (UNI)
