Sydney: Jasprit Bumrah, who was named Player of the Series, expressed disappointment over missing out on what he described as the "spiciest wicket of the series" in the just-concluded SGT Test match here on Sunday.

Despite the personal setback and physical discomfort, Bumrah played a key role in India's fight throughout the series. "It was a bit frustrating, but sometimes you have to respect your body. You can’t fight your body," he said.

The pacer revealed that he felt discomfort during his second spell in the first innings but continued to contribute, even as the team had to adjust with one bowler short.

"The chat was about belief. The other bowlers stepped up in the first innings, and with one bowler less, the responsibility fell on all of us," he added. "This morning, it was the same message—faith and character."

Acknowledging the fierce competition, Bumrah admitted the team was close to turning the series in their favour but came up short in critical moments. "Test cricket is all about adapting to situations, creating pressure, and absorbing it," he said. "We were in the game today as well, not like we were out of it. That’s how Test cricket goes."

Bumrah lauded the younger players in the squad for their growth and learning during the series. "The youngsters have gained a lot of experience," he noted. "They'll go from strength to strength. We have a lot of talent in our group, and while there’s disappointment, they will take valuable lessons from this."

The Indian pacer concluded by congratulating Australia team for their resilience. "It was a great series, and Australia fought really well. Congratulations to them."

Despite the loss, Bumrah’s performance and leadership were standout features of the series, underscoring his importance to the Indian side as they look to build on the experience and move forward.
