New Delhi: The government will strive to include Kabaddi into Olympics, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Thursday.
"The minister told Lok Sabha that under Khelo India scheme 2880 sportspersons have been chosen and will train to showcase their skills in various national and international events."
In reply to supplementaries during the Question Hour, Rijiju said, kabaddi is an indigenous sport and that the government would make efforts to take it to the Olympics.
Under the schemes, promising sportspersons and teams identified are provided support of modern sports science and exposure abroad under experts of respective disciplines, among others, he said.
"The Sports which comes under state list has to deal with the promotion of sports, tapping talent at grassroot level and providing them adequate training, lies with state governments," the minister added. (UNI)
