Haven't seen such spell in long time: Rohit praises Prasidh Krishna after India beat West Indies in 2nd ODI

Haven't seen such spell in long time: Rohit praises Prasidh Krishna after India beat West Indies in 2nd ODI

Ahmedabad: India white-ball captain Rohit Sharma on Wednesday heaped praise on pacer Prasidh Krishna, saying he hasn't seen such "spell in a long time".

The 25-year-old Prasidh returned with the figures of 4/12 in the nine overs that he bowled, including a three maiden overs, to help India beat West Indies by 44 runs in the second ODI.

"I haven't seen a spell like that in India for a long time now. He bowled with a lot of pace and kept it going and others complimented him," said Rohit at the post-match presentation.

With the victory, India have taken an unassailable lead 2-0 in the three-match series. It also marked first win for Rohit as the full-time captain in ODIs.

"Obviously, winning the series is a good feeling. There were some challenges," he said.

The skipper also lauded Suryakumar Yadav (64 off 83 balls) and KL Rahul's (49 off 48 balls) 91-run partnership for the fourth wicket, which turned out to be a crucial one after India's early collapse.

"The partnership between Rahul and Surya had a lot of maturity. We got to a respectable total (237/9) in the end. We knew we could fight it out. Surya will get a lot of confidence from today's knock."

When asked about India's surprising move to send Rishabh Pant to open the innings, Rohit said, "I've been asked to try different things, so that was something different. People will be happy seeing Rishabh open but yeah it's not permanent."

The last time Rishabh opened the batting was during the Under-19 World Cup in 2016.

"Shikhar (Dhawan) should be back for the next game. We don't mind losing a few games while trying out a few things because it is important to look at the long term goals (ODI World Cup 2023)."

India will next take on West Indies in the third and final ODI on February 11 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. (UNI)
