Harare: Zimbabwe will host India for a five-match T20I series in Harare from July 6-14, the two cricket boards announced on Tuesday.
The series will take place after the completion of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, which will be played from June 1-29.
The statement from Zimbabwe Cricket said the primary objective of the series is to further fortify the bilateral ties and foster a spirit of collaboration between the two cricketing boards.
Expressing his happiness, ZC Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be hosting India for a T20I series in July in what will be our biggest international attraction at home this year.
“The game of cricket has always immensely benefited from India’s influence and dedication to the sport, and I would like to say a huge thank you to the BCCI for committing to tour Zimbabwe once again.”
BCCI Honorary Secretary Jay Shah reiterated the sentiment: “The BCCI has always played a pioneering role in contributing to the global cricketing community. We understand that it is a period of rebuilding for Zimbabwe, and Zimbabwe Cricket needs our support at this juncture.
This will be the fourth time Zimbabwe will host India in a bilateral T20I series, having previously played out such series in 2010, 2015 and 2016.
The last T20I clash between the two teams occurred at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2022, with India securing a 71-run victory in Melbourne.
The match was memorable for a standout performance by Suryakumar Yadav, the two-time ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year, who smashed an unbeaten 61 runs off just 25 balls.
