Mullanpur: Mumbai Indians clinched a thrilling nine-run victory over Punjab Kings in the 33rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) here on Thursday, riding on a spectacular half-century by Suryakumar Yadav and a deadly bowling display by Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee.
 
Opting to bat first after winning the toss at the Maharaj Yadvindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mumbai Indians faced early setbacks but were propelled by a brilliant innings from Suryakumar, who scored 78 runs. His commanding knock, supported by contributions from Rohit Sharma (36 off 25 2x4s 3x6s) and Tilak Verma (34* off 18 2x4s 2x6s), helped Mumbai Indians post a challenging total of 192/7 in their 20 overs.
 
In response, Punjab Kings got off to a disastrous start, losing four wickets for just 14 runs. Despite valiant efforts from Shashank Singh (41 off 25 2x4s 3x6s) and Ashutosh Sharma (61 off 28 2x4s 7x6s), the disciplined bowling duo of Bumrah and Coetzee, backed by the team's overall bowling performance, kept Punjab Kings at bay.
 
Bumrah and Coetzee claimed three wickets each, restricting Punjab Kings to 183/9 in 19.1 overs.
 
The match was a testament to Mumbai Indians' all-round performance, with Surya's innings setting the tone with the bat and Bumrah and Coetzee delivering lethal spells with the ball.
This victory marked Mumbai Indians' third win in seven matches, consolidating their position in the IPL standings.
