IPL auction: 7 Aussies, Shardul Thakur set Rs 2 cr base price; Rachin Ravindra, Omarzai Azmatullah Rs 50 lakh

Dubai: While World Cup winning Australia players are hot cake for a buy, New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra has entered into the fray of 2024 IPL auction at the base price of Rs 50 lakh.
 
The auction is scheduled to be held at Coca-Cola Arena here on December 19.
 
Out of the 23 players, Australia's Travis Head, Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, Josh Inglis, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc are available for a base price of Rs 2 crore. Even India's Harshal Patel, Umesh Yadav, and Shardul Thakur have been bracketed in the same price.
 
Rachin, with Indian roots, hit headlines at the recently-concluded ICC Men's ODI World Cup as he scored 578 runs from 10 matches with the help of a record three centuries in ODI World Cup before turning 25 years.
 
Apart from the Kiwi, Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai also made himself available at the base price of Rs 50 lakh, despite having a great show at the ICC ODI World Cup.
 
There are 333 cricketers, who will go under the gavel. As many as 13 players are in the auction list with a base price of Rs 1.5 crore.
 
Out of 333 players, 214 are Indians and 119 are overseas players of which two players are from associate nations. The total capped players are 116, uncapped players are 215 and two from associate nations.
 
A maximum of 77 slots are available with up to 30 being slotted for overseas players.
 
Rs 2 crore is the highest reserve price with 23 players choosing to be slotted in the highest bracket. As many as 13 players are in the auction list with a base price of Rs 1.5 crore.
 
As much as Rs 262.95 crore are left in the purse of the franchises, and Gujarat Titans boast about having the fattest of purses with Rs 38.15 crore left with them, after trading Captain Hardik Pandya with Mumbai Indians.
 
Surprisingly, England pacer Jofra Archer has withdrawn his name from the auction after a short stint for Mumbai Indians in the 2023 tournament. At present, the star English pacer is suffering from an injury. England's Ben Stokes and Joe Root also withdrew from the 2024 IPL season due to workload management.
 
As many as 85 players were released on the Indian Premier League 2024 retention deadline day. One of the biggest names in this bracket is big-ticket English batsman Harry Book, who was bought by SunRisers Hyderabad for Rs 13.25 crore last year.
 
Meanwhile, Sam Curran was retained by Punjab Kings while Cameron Green was retained by Mumbai Indians amid contrasting reports.
 
The auction will start at 2:30pm IST.
