Mumbai: Mumbai Indians' strike bowler Jasprit Bumrah on Saturday became the first Indian bowler to bag 15 wickets for the 7th consecutive season in IPL history.
He reached the milestone in today's match against Delhi Capitals in the 69th IPL match of 2022 season at Wankhede Stadium wherein he grabbed three wickets in stipulated four overs.
Former Sri Lankan great Lasith Malinga is the other bowler who is credited with this distinction.
Bumrah was the chief wrecker for MI as he sent the belligerent Mitchell Marsh, Prithvi Shaw and Rovman Powell back to the dugout.
Earlier, Powell and Rishabh Pant's vital partnership and a quickfire unbeaten 19 by Axar Patel at the end powered DC to post a modest total of 159 for 7.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Bumrah said, "I was very happy with my rhythm after coming back from Sri Lanka. I was happy with the execution. After the ball is released from my hand, I cannot do much. I just try to keep things simple, and execute as much as I can."
The win against DC was nothing special, Bumrah said, adding, "I just tried to have fun, and enjoyed my game. Very happy with how the last game went. The wicket is quite fast here, there was pace and bounce. But this (today's pitch) was slow, and the bounce was low. There wasn't much swing, so we assessed the conditions and tried to execute our plans."
Bumrah said he spends time helping youngsters which keeps the atmosphere in the dressing room healthy. "Whenever you are new to the game, you need to learn a lot. I try to help the youngsters as much as I can. We tried to help them as much as we can, so that it's a good atmosphere (in the dressing room)."
Asked to reflect on this year's dismal performance of MI, Bumrah said the team needs to analyse next year and come back strongly. "Improving your game is a yearly process, it doesn't stop," he said. (UNI)
