Dubai: England star Jos Buttler has been crowned the ICC Men's Player of the Month for November 2022 after leading his side to the T20 World Cup title.

Buttler beat competition from compatriot Adil Rashid and Shaheen Shah Afridi to win the award after a strong performance in the crunch semi-final match against India and leading England to their first ICC Men's T20 World Cup title since 2010.

Buttler put on an unbeaten 170-run partnership with Alex Hales for the opening wicket in the run chase against India in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup.

The skipper's unbeaten 49-ball 80 had nine fours and three sixes as England cruised into the final of the tournament where they beat Pakistan to be crowned champions.

Buttler crossed 50 in two of the four T20Is he played in the month aside from helming his team's journey to the coveted title.

Buttler said it was a great honour to win the award and saved special praise for the fans that voted and his teammates who he led superbly to the T20 World Cup title in Australia.

"I want to thank the fans for voting for me as the ICC Player of the Month for November," he said.

"This award is down to the efforts of my teammates in what was the most incredible month of cricket, culminating in winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

"It is right up there amongst the best months of cricket I’ve been involved in, and it was pretty special to lead a group of players to the ultimate accolade of becoming world champions."

Former England international and ICC Player of the Month voting panel member Lydia Greenway said Buttler was a worthy winner, ICC reported.

"Jos continues to show the world why he is one of the best white ball players to have graced the game," Greenway said.

"Fearless, skillful and a fantastic leader who, coming into the tournament had big shoes to fill following Eoin Morgan’s departure.

"Determined to do things his way paid off immensely in his own and his team’s performances." (UNI)
