Kohli fined 25 percent match fees for excessive appealing during Afghanistan match

Southampton: Indian skipper Virat Kohli, was fined 25 per cent for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ICC Cricket World Cup match against Afghanistan at Southampton on Saturday.

He was found guilty of breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct in Southampton and Article 2.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “Excessive appealing during an International Match”.

In the 29th over of the Afghanistan innings, when Kohli advanced towards umpire Aleem Dar in an aggressive manner when appealing an lbw decision.

There was no need of a formal hearing as Kohli accepted the sanction from match referee Chris Broad.

One demerit point has also been added to the disciplinary record of Kohli, for whom it was the second offence since the introduction of the revised Code in September 2016. (UNI)
