Dubai: Australia’s Mitchell Marsh surpassed Kane Williamson's feat of slamming the fastest fifty in the Men’s T20 World Cup final’s history.

Marsh hammered an astonishing fifty in just 31 balls as he raced past Williamson who also achieved the feat in the same clash, by reaching the half ton in 32 balls in the first innings.

Marsh, who walked in after the fall of his skipper Aaron Finch's wicket early on, took the game away from the Kiwis with his fire-powered batting.

Before this final, Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara and England’s Joe Root were the joint record holders. They had made the fastest fifties off 33 balls.

The Sri Lankan star had reached the milestone in the 2009 final against Pakistan at Lord’s. Root scored against Australia in the finals and played a mighty role in England’s maiden T20 World Cup triumph.

Marsh stitched a crucial 92-run stand with opener David Warner to help Australia script a comfortable win at the end. The opener smashed 53 runs as his innings was laced with 3 sixes and 4 fours. (UNI)
