Kolhapur: Nashik's Vivek Vatpade won the state-level selection chess tournament for hearing and speech-impaired players held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Stadium here on Monday.
In Men's open competition, played by Swiss League method in five rounds, top-seeded Vivek Vatpade (Nashik) won the tournament with 4.5 points, while Bhushan Pawar was the first runner-up with four points.
The competition was organised by the Kolhapur District Deaf and Dumb Association, in association with Maharashtra Sports Council of Deaf.
From this competition, the state team will be selected for the Deaf-dumb National Chess tournament to be held in Gujarat from July 27 to 31.

Men's group: Vivek Vatpade (Nashik), Bhushan Pawar (Nashik), Deepak Khonlkar (Mumbai), Mansuri Mohamad Faim (Palghar), Sagar Ghodke (Beed) and Suyash Satpute (Kolhapur).
Women's group: Punam Laddha (Ichalkaranji-Kolhapur).
