Noida DM Suhas Yathiraj wins silver medal at Tokyo Paralympics

Tokyo: India's para-shuttler Suhas Yathiraj clinched the silver medal after losing to Lucas Mazur of France in the men's singles SL4 class final at the Tokyo Paralympics, here on Sunday.

The 38-year-old Suhas put up a brave fight before losing 21-15 17-21 15-21 to two-time world champion Mazur in the final, which lasted 62-minute.

Yathiraj, the district magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida), who has an impairment in one of his ankles, also became the first-ever IAS officer to win a medal at the Paralympics.

With his silver, India have now extended its medal tally to 18 - four gold, eight silver and six bronze medals at the ongoing Paralympic Games.

Meanwhile, India's Tarun Dhillon lost the bronze medal match to Fredy Setiawan of Indonesia 17-21, 11-21 in the men's singles badminton SL4 event. (UNI)
