Jaipur: The police arrested a private school teacher in Rajasthan's Udaipur district who was sacked by the school management for supporting Pakistan's victory against India in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Nafisa Attari, a teacher of Neerja Modi School, was arrested by Udaipur's Ambamata Police and was produced before a court. The court then sent the teacher to jail.

The teacher has been booked under IPC section 153 (B) (Imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration), said SHO of Amba Mata police station Narpat Singh.

After Pakistan registered first win over its neigbour in World Cup on Sunday, Nafisa Attari expressed happiness over Pakistan's victory on her WhatsApp status writing that ''We have won''.

When the parent of a child studying in school saw this WhatsApp status, he got furious and asked the teacher if she supported Pakistan, the teacher said 'yes'.

Later, the parent called the school management and objected to it. After the matter drew criticism from all quarters, the school management on October 25 expelled Nafisa Attari with immediate effect.

The teacher later apologised on social media for her post, saying that she is an Indian and supports the Indian team. The teacher said that she had made such a remark in a lighter vein.

India had lost to Pakistan by 10 wickets in their opener in the World Cup. (Inputs from UNI)
