Russia defeat Spain and Croatia beats Denmark in penalty shootout

Moscow: In a tense counter, hosts Russia defeated Spain by 4-3 on penalties after a draw of 1-1 in the World Cup round 16 on Sunday.With this win Russia entered into the quarter-finals, where as the Spain journey ended.
Russia forward Artem Dzyuba levelled the score, when he converted a penalty into a goal. Both the teams were settled at 1-1 at halftime.It was in the 12th minute when Spain got an early lead through a Russia own goal by Sergey Ignashevich.
 
Russia Sergei Ignashevich is the oldest player ever to score a World Cup own goal.Since the breakup of the Soviet Union, Russia never beaten Spain. Their last encounter ended 3-3 in a friendly match in November 2017.

So, far spain have scored 10 goals in their last three games against Russia.Russia will face either Croatia or Denmark, who will meet on Sunday, in Sochi on July 7.(UNI)

Croatia and Denmark go to penalty shootout after 1-1 draw
Moscow: The World Cup last 16 clash between Croatia and Denmark went to a penalty shootout on Sunday after the teams finished deadlocked at 1-1 after 90 minutes and extra time at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.
 
Croatia's Luka Modric had the chance to send his team into a quarter-final against hosts Russia with a penalty four minutes from the end of extra time but Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel dived to his left to save the spot kick.
 
Denmark opened the scoring after 57 seconds when Mathias Jorgensen scuffed the ball over the line off the foot of Croatia goalkeeper Danijel Subasic but Mario Mandzukic had the Croats back on level terms three minutes later.
