New Delhi: Amid the racism row over George Floyd’s killing, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has shared Nelson Mandela’s famous quote, suggesting how sport has the ability to change the world.
With the issue of racism and discrimination being discussed strongly all over the world, the Master Blaster took to Twitter to post an inspiring video featuring England pacer Jofra Archer, to affirm his stand against racism.
“Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to unite the world in a way that little else does,” Tendulkar quoted Mandela’s ‘wise words’ on Twitter.
Archer himself has been subject to racist chants, both in the stadium by fans and on social media. Born in Barbados, the pacer went on to represent England in international cricket and has truly established his name among the modern-day fast bowlers.
The International Cricket Council (ICC), recently released a video on social media in the wake of George Floyd’s death in the US, which has sparked a huge protest in the country.
In the 90-second video clip, Jofra Archer is seen successfully bowling the Super Over against New Zealand for England and winning the 2019 Cricket World Cup for his country.
“Without diversity, cricket is nothing. Without diversity, you don’t get the full picture,” the ICC said in the tweet, along with the video.
ICC’s reaction came after several cricketers, including Chris Gayle, Daren Sammy and others spoke against racism in the aftermath of the killing of an African-American man, George Floyd during police custody in Minneapolis, US.
A video clip of a police officer kneeling on Floyd’s neck minutes before his death triggered massive protests across the globe.
Several sports stars took a stand against racism and sporting federations across the world spoke up against the killing and in support of diversity. (UNI)
