Dubai: India will begin its campaign in the T20 World Cup 2022 against arch rivals Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), according to the fixtures which the International Cricket Council (ICC) released on Friday.
India and Pakistan are placed in Group 2 along with South Africa and Bangladesh plus the winner of Group B and runner-up in Group A from the first round.
India and Pakistan are scheduled to meet on October 23, the second day of the Super 12 stage, in what will be one of the most anticipated matches.
In the second Super 12 match, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian side will face the runner up of Group A of the first round.
India will next face South Africa and Bangladesh on October 30 and November 2 respectively.
In its last league stage match, the men in blue will be up against the winner of Group B of the first round on November 6.
In group 1 of the Super 12 stage, England, New Zealand, Australia and Afghanistan have been drawn together and will be joined by the winner of Group A and the runner-up in Group B from the first round.
The event will take place in Australia from October 18 to November 13 with seven cities to host matches.
Sixteen teams are set to compete at the showpiece event with 12 nations already confirmed. The final four will be determined by Global Qualifying.
The semi-finals will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and Adelaide Oval on November 9 and 10 respectively. It will be the first time the Adelaide Oval will host a World Cup semi-final.
The MCG will host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 final on November 13. (UNI)
