Mumbai: India batsman Shreyas Iyer has been included in the Mumbai squad to play against Andhra Pradesh in the second round of Ranji Trophy 2023-24, beginning January 12.

This marks his return to the Mumbai XI for the first time in the Ranji Trophy since the 2018-19 season.

This was announced by the Senior Selection Committee of the Mumbai Cricket Association consisting of Rajeev Kulkarni (Chairman), Sanjay Patil, Ravi Thaker, Jeetendra Thackeray and Kiran Powar.

The match will be played from 12 to 15 January at MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy Ground here.

Iyer, who had a very poor outing against South Africa in the away series, will look to prepare himself for the upcoming home Test series against England, beginning January 25 in Hyderabad. He managed scores of 31, 6, 0 and 4 not out, in South Africa.

Earlier in the week, Iyer was omitted from India's T20I squad for the three-match series against Afghanistan.

Iyer's inclusion will pep up Mumbai in the absence of Sarfaraz Khan and Shivam Dube, who are part of India A against England Lions and the senior T20 national team against Afghanistan, respectively.
