Colombo: Sri Lanka pacer Lahiru Kumara has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the team’s tour of West Indies, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said on Monday.
“Following PCR Tests carried out on the squad nominated to take part in the ‘White Ball’ segment of the Tour of West Indies, Lahiru Kumara has tested Positive for Covid-19. He was detected during a PCR Tests carried out yesterday. (21st February),” SLC said in an statement.
“Immediately upon identification, Lahiru Kumara has been directed to follow the Government’s health protocol laid out on Covid-19. Sri Lanka Cricket will continue with normal operations, adhering to the stipulated Health Protocols,” it added.
Sri Lanka’s tour of West Indies starts with the white-ball segment, with three T20Is and three ODIs scheduled from March 3 to 14.
The Lankan team is supposed to leave for the West Indies on February 23 and is unlikely to be part of the white-ball games while there is a possibility of him joining the team ahead of the Test series which begins on March 21, provided he recovers on time. (UNI)
