Sports fraternity extends Independence Day wishes

New Delhi: As the nation is celebrating the 76th Independence Day under the banner of Azadi ka Amrit on Monday, the Indian sports fraternity extended their wishes on social media on Monday.

Leading sports personalities across disciplines -- P R Sreejesh, Rani Rampal, Mithali Raj, Lakshya Sen, Nikhat Zareen and Rohit Sharma and others -- joined the national celebration on the momentous occasion of completing the 75 years of Independence.

Taking to Twitter, hockey stalwart Sreejesh said: "Thousands laid down their lives so that our country breaths this day. Never forget their sacrifice. Happy Independence Day."



"On the occasion of 75th Independence Day Let your spirits fly high with the Tiranga Pride," women hockey captain Rani tweeted.



"Playing for India was a dream and also a huge responsibility to give my best for the nation. It was a proud feeling that I'll always cherish. As our nation completes 75 years of independence, let's strive harder to reach new heights," former women cricket captain Mithali said.



Young badminton sensation Lakshya wrote on Twitter: "It's an honor to represent my motherland. Couldn't have asked for anything other than being born in this amazing country. India, you make me what I am. Wishing everyone a very happy independence day."



Reigning world champion boxer Nikhat tweeted: "It's an unparalleled feeling to represent my beloved and make her stand tall amongst other nations. May the future bring more glory to our great nation. Wishing everyone a very happy Independence Day.



"75 years of independence. Happy independence day," India men's cricket captain Rohit Sharma tweeted.



Ex-India skipper Virat Kohli: "75 glorious years. Proud to be an Indian. Happy Independence Day to all."



Former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar said: "Wishing each one of you a Happy Independence Day!"



"Our freedom fighters fought hard so that we could live a free life. Wishing every Indian Happy Independence Day," said shuttler H S Prannoy.



"Happy 75th Independence Day! Proud to be a citizen of this beautiful country. Let’s all work together towards the betterment of this great nation and let’s not forget the sacrifices of our freedom fighters," Commonwealth Games men's doubles champion Chirag Shetty tweeted.



Paralympics and CWG champion para table tennis player Bhavina Patel said: "May our Tiranga always fly the highest. Wishing everyone a Happy IndependenceDay. Vande Mataram! Jai Hind!" (UNI)
