Colombo: In a bid to help their country battle the worst ever economic crisis, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has decided to donate its entire revenue from ticket sales of the Australia Tour to the government, SLC Secretary Mohan de Silva said on Monday.

The Executive Committee decided this after a request by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe.

“While welcoming the Australians, I am proud to say that the Australian tour is very important to the country not only on the cricket front but also economically given the foreign exchange revenue the country will accrue during this critical juncture. SLC has decided to donate all the proceeds for the benefit of the people," de Silva said.

Sri Lanka will be earning $2.5 million by hosting the Australians on a 52-day home tour.

The first match of the 3-match T20I series between Sri Lanka and Australia started on Tuesday here at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium. (UNI)
