Tokyo Olympics: India’s tennis campaign ends after Sumit Nagal's loss to world no. 2 Medvedev

Tokyo: India’s tennis campaign at the Tokyo Olympics came to an end after Sumit Nagal lost to world No 2 Daniil Medvedev of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) in the men’s singles second round, here on Monday.

Medvedev- the finalist at the Australian Open and US Open, defeated Nagal 6-2, 6-1 to reach the third round.

The 23-year old Nagal had defeated Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in the first round to become the first Indian since Leander Paes at Atlanta 1996 to win an Olympics men’s singles tennis match.

Other Indians in the competition, Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina too crashed out after losing their opening match in the women’s doubles to the Kichenok sisters on Sunday. (UNI)
