Dhaka: A mob vandalised and torched the house of former Bangladesh cricket captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza in Narail district on Monday night.

Mortaza, an MP of erstwhile ruling Awami League, was not at home when his house was attacked by protestors, hours after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country following a military coup amidst a deadly students-led protest that led to loss of over 300 lives in clashes across the country.

Mortaza, who played 36 Tests and 220 ODIs for Bangladesh till his retirement in 2017, joined Awami League in 2018. He won the parliamentary election twice from Narail-2 seat and served till today as the chief whip of the Awami League in parliament.
