‘Was watching a movie’: Shreyas Iyer reveals late-night selection call from Rohit Sharma

Shreyas Iyer made a surprising revelation after India's win over England in the first ODI, saying he was initially not part of the playing XI. However, a late-night call from captain Rohit Sharma changed everything.

During a post-match interview, Iyer shared that he was watching a movie when he received the call, informing him that he might play due to Virat Kohli's swollen knee.

He said, "I was watching a movie last night, I thought I could extend my night, but then I got a call from skipper saying that you may play because Virat has got a swollen knee. And then hurried back to my room, went off to sleep straightaway."

Iyer went on to play a crucial role in India's victory, scoring a match-winning 59 off 36 balls. His inclusion in the team led to a reshuffle in the top order, with regular openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill being split, and Gill moving down to No. 3.

Interestingly, Iyer's revelation suggests that Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made his ODI debut, was already part of the team's plans, with Iyer initially set to start the series on the bench.
