The long-running speculation over Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) has finally been addressed. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed that Dhoni is not retiring yet and will play for CSK in the 2026 IPL season.
In a recent interview shared on YouTube by Provoke Lifestyle, Viswanathan responded to a question from young fans about Dhoni’s future. Smiling, he said, “No, he is not retiring for this (2026) IPL.”
When asked about when the legendary captain might actually retire, Viswanathan humorously replied, “I will ask him and get back to you.”
The CSK CEO was also quizzed about the team’s chances in the next season. “We are ready, but we don’t know whether we will be able to win. But we will try our best,” he said.
CSK had a disappointing run in the 2025 IPL season, managing to win only four of their 14 matches and finishing at the bottom of the points table for the first time in 18 seasons.
Despite retiring from international cricket on August 15, 2020, Dhoni continues to remain an integral part of CSK and holds the record as the most-capped player in IPL history. His leadership, calm demeanor, and unmatched fan following keep him at the heart of the league’s excitement — and it seems fans will see Captain Cool in yellow for at least one more season.
