New Delhi: India's under 19 and women's team were on the verge of winning the ICC world cup this year but both the team choked at the eleventh hour and missed the bus. Interestingly U-19 and women team were invincible till they faced the final frontier.
India's U19 team had won 4 ODI world cup's and faced Bangladesh in the final. While It was the sole occasion for the women team to enter in the final of ICC Women T20 world cup.
9th February: ICC U-19 ODI World cup final in Potchefstroom
Bangladesh beat defending Champions India by 3 wickets via D/L method in the final to win maiden ICC U-19 World Cup title at Senwes Park.
Parvez Hossain Emon and skipper Akbar Ali rose to the occasion with a solid 7th and 8th wicket stand, helping Bangladesh overcome the 170-run target in 42 overs.The target was revised to 170 runs after rain interrupted.
Replying to India's meager score of 177, Bangladesh were 163 for 7 after 41 overs when rain stopped play.At that point, Bangladesh were 18 runs ahead in terms of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) par score which is 145.
Ravi Bishnoi was the most successful bowler for India with 4/30, while Sushant Mishra 2/19 and Yashasvi Jaiswal 1/10 were the other wicket takers.Bishnoi also became the highest wicket taker in a single U19 World Cup campaign by picking 17 wickets.
Earlier, Bangladesh bowled out India for 177 in 47.2 overs. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal top scored for India with 88 runs off 121, while Tilak Varma (38 off 65) and Dhruv Jurel (22 off 38) also made useful contributions with the bat.
8th March: ICC T20 womens world cup Final in Melbourne
Defending champions Australia thrashed India by 85 runs in final to lift the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup trophy for the fifth time at the iconic MCG.
Opting to bat, Australia posted a mammoth total of 184-4 in 20 overs. Alyssa Healy top scored with 75 off 39 balls with seven fours and five maximums while Mooney remained unbeaten on 78, to help Australia post the big total.
In reply, India were bowled out on 99 in 19.1 overs. Jess Jonassen was the most successful bowler for Australia with 3 for 20.(UNI)
