Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj on Wednesday night criticised Air India Express after facing a distressing travel ordeal that left him and several passengers stranded for hours.

In a post on social media, Siraj revealed that his Air India Express flight (IX 2884) from Guwahati to Hyderabad, scheduled to depart at 7:25 pm, never took off on time. He alleged that despite multiple enquiries, the airline failed to provide any clear communication, leaving passengers waiting without answers.

“Air India flight no IX 2884 from Guwahati to Hyderabad was supposed to take off at 7.25 however there has been no communication from the airline and after repeatedly following up, they have just delayed the flight with no proper reasoning. This has been really frustrating and this is the basic ask by every passenger,” Siraj wrote on X.

He further added, “Flight delayed by 4 hours and still no update has left us stranded. Worst airline experience. I really would would not advise anyone to take this flight if they can’t take a stand.”

Shortly after Siraj’s post went viral, Air India Express responded publicly on X:
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused, Mr Siraj. We regret to inform you that the flight has been cancelled due to unforeseen operational reasons. Our team at the airport is actively assisting all guests with the necessary arrangements. We understand how difficult this situation is, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding. Please be assured that our team will continue to keep you updated and extend all possible support.”

Siraj was travelling back to Hyderabad after India’s crushing 408-run loss to South Africa, which completed a 0-2 defeat in the two-match Test series — India’s second straight home whitewash after last year’s 3-0 loss to New Zealand.

The 408-run margin is India’s biggest-ever defeat in Test cricket by runs and marks South Africa’s largest win against India.

India had earlier lost the first Test by 30 runs at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. They will now take on South Africa in a three-match ODI series starting November 30.
