New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said that the government is committed to doubling farmers’ income by 2022 and enhancing peoples’ purchasing power.
Ms Sitharaman, while presenting the Budget for 2020-2021 here in Parliament, said that this is the Budget to boost economic power.
“Government insured over 6 crore farmers under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Agriculture market needs to be liberalised, NABARD will undertake a exercise, to develop warehouses. Government will support establishment warehouses at Block and Tehsil levels,” the Finance Minister said.
“We will encourage balanced use of all fertilizers, a necessary step to change the incentive regime which encourages excessive use of chemical fertilizers,” the FM added.
She also said that the Government plans to involve rural youth from coastal areas in fisheries work. (UNI)
