At least 36 flamingos died after colliding with an Emirates flight near Mumbai's Ghatkopar area in Maharashtra.

According to reports, the plane also suffered severe damage after striking the migratory birds.
As per reports, EK 508, an Emirates flight, reported a bird hit on arrival at 9.18 pm on Monday. The flight later made a safe landing at the Mumbai airport.

During searches, around 36 bodies of flamingos were retrieved till Tuesday morning.

Mumbai has witnessed a concerning surge in flamingo deaths over the past few months.

In February this year, four flamingos were killed after crashing into a billboard at Seawoods in Navi Mumbai. Promptly following the accident, CIDCO took action to remove the billboard.

The wetlands along the Mumbai and Navi Mumbai coast are a well-known flamingos habitat. The migratory birds arrive on these shorelines around December and are spotted till March and April.
